Candidate Interviews
Fernando "Freddy" Ferrer
Candidate for Mayor of New York City

Freddy Ferrer shares his insights into the housing crisis and
the role of the mayor in easing it, including
his innovative economic viewpoints. He discusses the importance of affordable
stable housing to the overall
economy of the city, "a community creates a market, a market creates a marketplace".
Ferrer voices his
support for creative community responses to the housing crisis such as the "No
Displacement Zones"
designated in Park Slope by the 5th Avenue Committee. He also discusses stopping
the use of city money to
fund displacement, his housing production ideas, his plan to revitalize and
protect the city's remaining
Mitchell-Lama housing, and much, much more.
Rent Wars supports Ferrer's candidacy for Mayor as the only
mayoral candidate that has a clear
understanding of, and empathy for the victims of, wholesale displacement. He
is also the only mayoral
candidate with an unbroken record of respect for the community based media.
Only a candidate who
communicates with the community can effectively represent the community. More
information about our
support will be included in the upcoming Election Special and Supplement.

Marty Markowitz
Candidate for Brooklyn Borough President

Marty Markowitz, current State Senator, talks to host Lora Chio
about housing issues facing Brooklyn,
including his extensive career as a tenant organizer and advocate, his 27 years
of experience as an elected
State Senator (known as "Mr. Tenant" in Albany), and his personal history as
a child who grew up in public
and rent controlled housing. He also discusses the changing face of the housing
crisis, the need for
preservation and help to keep moderate and low-income families from being displaced,
and his priority, if elected, to protect the housing for Brooklyn residents,
rather than to focus on building housing to attract the wealthy from other boroughs,
and much, much more.
