| Wednesday, May 05, 2004 - 01:26 pm All out on Monday!!! Stop Mayor Bloomberg before he jacks up your rent again. Picket his rent board this coming Monday, May 10. Mayor Bloomberg has stacked the Rent Guidelines Board with a bunch of pro-landlord, pro-business types. They are getting ready to whack rent-stabilized tenants with another round of unfair, unjustified rent increases. This year, members of the board are talking about a longevity tax- an extra 25 rent hike for any tenant who has been in occupancy for eight years or longer. On MONDAY, MAY 10, the Rent Guidelines Board will meet to take a preliminary vote on rent increases for tenants who renew their leases in the year beginning October 1. (The final vote will take place June 17, after a day-long hearing on June 15.) Tenants will be out in force to let Bloomberg and his rent board cronies know that the mayor will pay a price when he runs for re-election next year if he sticks it to tenants now. BE THERE NEXT MONDAY, MAY 10. Tenants will demonstrate from 4:30 to 5:30 pm, outside Cooper Union, 7th Street and Third Avenue in Manhattan. The rally is co-sponsored by Met Council on Housing and Tenants + Neighbors. The Rent Guidelines Board meeting begins at 5:30 pm in the Great Hall at Cooper Union. Tenants will attend this meeting in force to show Bloomberg's rent board that unfair increases will not be tolerated.
