| Rent Wars (Rentwars) | Tuesday, February 10, 2004 - 01:18 am Save these “PRIORITY” DATES: WED., FEBRUARY 18 - Borough Hall - Marty Markowitz’s Hearing on the Downtown Brooklyn Plan - Quoting from the form letter left at the condemned homes on Duffield Street - this is the chance to express “feelings” on their homes being condemned. As above, land in Ratner’s Stadium Plan and the Downtown Brooklyn Plan overlap and Eminent Domain is being used in both! - The Borough President then writes his own “recommendation” taking into account the CB2’s vote. MON., FEBRUARY 23rd - Borough Hall - 6pm - A “scoping” session to discuss a SUPPLEMENT to (most likely because of attendance at CB2 meetings) the (draft) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) which would widen Flatbush Ave. at Atlantic. They have emphasized: “This SEIS will not represent an environmental review of the arena project”!!! BUT FOR MAKING FLATBUSH A HIGHWAY TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE STADIUM “in the Atlantic Terminal Area”. The stadium will have it’s own EIS. Please prepare testimony opposing the need for widening Flatbush: No Stadium arguments, more traffic, air pollution, noise pollution, open spaces, the need for wide sidewalks, historic buildings, school crossings. It is not clear whether testimony will be allowed at this or at a future meeting. Either way our attendance is very important! MOST URGENT ARENA DATE: This date just released. February 24th - Venue & time not yet available - The scoping session on the ARENA’S Environmental Impact Statement. ESDC on 3rd in Manhattan will soon know venue and time. Other Important Dates to Remember: Monday, February 9th - Congressman Owens meeting at the YMCA on 3rd. Ave. Tuesday, February 10, 6:30 - CB8 meeting @ 50 Prospect Place February 12, 10:30 a.m. Ratner speaks at the Marriot Hotel for an economic forum !!!!!! Perhaps some coordination would be helpful in this? Any ideas? February 12, 7:00 - CB8 Meeting @145 Bklyn. Ave - The Childrens Museum. We are looking for any volunteers to join us in Albany next week to help lobby support with Velmanette Montgomery. Dates are flexible. We are working on a “Local Celebrities Opposing the Stadium” campaign - (that’s not the title), if you have any leads (actors, artists, authors...) who would support our fight or live in the area please let us know. We are looking for volunteers (v. important) to circulate flyers at 6+ local churches in the area on Sundays (this or next). Please reply if you are interested. |
