| Monday, October 01, 2001 - 08:56 am In response to complaints about the exchange banner system, a new local banner system has been implemented on Rent Wars. The new system is completely under our control and all banners are approved by RWN. This should resplve the problem of "questionable" and tasteless banners being displayed on the Rent Wars website. If you see any banners not in keeping with our theme, please report them to webmaster@rentwars.com. Thank you

| Wednesday, October 03, 2001 - 04:09 pm Hi Tom, That's what I usually saw also, along with lawyer adds for firms in Texas. But I've gotten a few complaints and have seen a few glaring examples with my own eyes. One was a banner for "celebrity photos" that looked like something x-rated. It wasn't, but I was very disturbed that they let a banner like that onto the exchange and into the "Legal, Public Affairs" category. There are other less disturbing examples involving car parts and things like that. The only reason to be part of those exchanges is to increase traffic. They certainly didn't do that for Rent Wars. We get traffic from our TV shows, publicity, mutual links, and (soon) from our printed newsletter. Even if it only happens one time out of a hundred, those inappropriate banners detract from our website. In addition the exchanges slow down the loading of the pages with their bulky coding and slow loading banners. There just wasnt enough traffic coming from them to offset these disadvantages so we decided to can them. We decided that it is better to show banners for charities, information resources, public interest lawyers, sites on our links page, and our various sponsors- even if no one pays us a dime. (Ever since NBCi tanked we havent had a good banner sponsor.) I hope you'll notice and appreciate how much faster the pages load without those exchange banners. Ronin PS. Thanks for caring enough to notice!!
