| Ronin (Ronin) | Monday, September 03, 2001 - 01:25 pm RWN supports David Reiss for City Council District 33. David Reiss is the man. He is a top flight lawyer at one of the worlds most prestigious law firms, Paul Weiss. Despite this, he maintains a grounded earthiness that is refreshing. He is comfortable with the common man. And he is accessible to the common man. Of all of his opponents, two of whom wield many times the campaign dollars that he does, only Reiss is in touch enough with the community to have his face everywhere they might see it. Only Reiss cared enough about his community to set up a booth at Welcome Back to Brooklyn. RWN doesn't agree with Reiss on all points of his housing plan, but he clearly has one, and he is open minded enough to debate his ideas and priorities. As a candidate he has been the only one eager to address the issues. Steve "Moneybags" Cohn- While his campaign was responsive, we were never able to truly sit down with Cohn. Some of this may be the result of the Green campaign's actions. Despite this, RWN is greatly concerned about the fundraising dominance of the Cohn campaign. Clearly with this much money some must have landlord roots. If elected Cohn may have great influence on the council, but would it be pro-tenant? While Cohn is a far superior a candidate to Yassky, Reiss is the better choice. Ken Diamondstone- Campaigns lose stuff. Campaigns ignore stuff. But rare is a campaign that ignores a forum where all three of his opponents are negotiating. If elected would Diamondstone's office be as inactive as his campaign? Despite this, even if he never showed up for work he would make a better councilman than Yassky. David Yassky- The obnoxious Professor Yassky. It's no wonder he isn't campaigning on the streets. In person he would lose votes by the bus load once voters get a whiff of his arrogance and contempt for them. (Read more details about Yassky in the preceding subtopic). If elected, you can be sure that Yassky will insult every minority member of the council, you can be sure that he will insult and denigrate every non-Ivy member of the council, and you can be sure that he will insult and denigrate any constituent that would dare to knock on his door. If Yassky should win the primary, vote for anything else. If he's allowed into the council, District 33 stands to lose everything. So make sure to vote for David Reiss and to encourage your friends to vote for him as well. There is a lot at stake. Ronin Amano |
| Ronin (Ronin) | Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 02:03 pm After posting the above announcement, we have received several emails from Diamondstone supporters. Apparently Diamondstone is running a serious campaign and RWN just slipped through the cracks. He has raised over $40,000, third after Cohn and Yassky, and more than Reiss. He also has impressive endorsements from sitting pols, major political and grassroots organizations. He even had very prominent advertisements in local neighboorhood papers last week. He is a serious contender. So it was not correct to portray him as inactive. I apologize the error. I find Reiss posters everywhere. Even stores technically outside the district, but on the walk paths from major transport junctions to his district. Despite being the low man on the money totem pole, Reiss is out there pressing the flesh, visibly supported throughout the community, and willing to discuss and debate his ideas with all comers. Council race primary voters are a small elite group best reached by physically being out there. I suspect that Reiss's low-on-cash, high-on-presence grassroots campaign will surprise everyone and give him the win. He is definitely the best choice for the 33rd district. Ronin |
